THANATEROS

THANATEROS is a composite word made up of the names of the ancient Greek God of love, Eros; and the ancient Greek God of Death, Thanatos. The Mutation Parlour CD 'Thanateros' spins between these two polarities, both in musical style and in lyrical content, recognizing the infinite cycles of life, death and rebirth.

THANATEROS is also in the name of the international Chaos Magick group begun by Peter Carroll, the IOT or Illuminati of Thanateros. In his classic books 'Liber Null and Psychonaut' (Samuel Weiser) and 'Liber Kaos' (Samuel Weiser), Carroll prescribes magical theories and practises revolving around sex and death, drawing from the vast resources of magical history, especially the works of Austin Osman Spare, the 'grandfrater of chaos magick', mutating them together with his own ideas.

My own (affiliated) magical (dis/)order, the OoC or Order of Chaos, is a less structured organization/disorganization with many synchronous (and many vastly different) ideas and methods to the IOT. Carrol's approach to chaos magick is largely scientific and philosophical. My approach/reaction to the same basic concepts is more of a poetic/artistic one.

Thus the CD draws upon many of the principles of chaos magick blended and mutated together with my own unique madness and infinite other resources and influences. Lyrics (on the following pages) and music alike are a multicultural and multisubcultural blend of tradition and innovation.
